Training in Childhood Loss and Grief 2011

Aims

This five-week course seeks to develop:

  • Knowledge of childhood grief
  • Communication with bereaved children
  • The effects of loss on a family
  • Support for the bereaved child in school
  • Support for children following suicide and traumatic death
  • Other resources available to support child and helper

Learning outcomes

  • To gain confidence and understanding when supporting children, in relation to loss and grief
  • Increased awareness and confidence when communicating with grieving children and young people
  • To understand a child’s perception of death
  • To enable participants to acknowledge their existing skills and identify their learning needs in relation to loss and grief
  • To learn about useful resources

Who should attend?

Healthcare or community-based professionals who might come into contact with bereaved children in the course of their work, volunteers and those wanting to gain an understanding of how best to support bereaved children.

A one day workshop for schools and settings which addresses
the issues of bereavement, loss and critical incidents.
